How to read Hometown Signals records
Hometown Signals publishes sourced, dated business records that readers can examine for themselves. This page explains what the information labels mean, what readers can expect from a published record and the limitations of publicly available business information.
It describes our public editorial standards. Internal research procedures, evaluation rules and validation systems are not published.
What we publish
Each record holds the kind of information a customer needs before making a call: the business name, phone number, address, hours, service area and the work it does. We publish what public sources actually state. Where a source does not state something, the record says “Not stated” rather than guessing. This page explains what readers can expect from a published record.
We do not publish opinions, ratings, rankings or promotional claims, and no business can pay to appear, to move up a page, or to have a fact changed.
Where the information comes from
Records may draw from business-published information and other relevant public sources.
Sources displayed on a record have been associated with the business represented on that page. Source links are provided so readers can inspect the supporting material directly. Each source carries the date it was reviewed, and those sources are listed and numbered at the bottom of every record.
How information is presented
Business-provided statements and information found in other public sources are identified separately. These labels describe where displayed information was found. They do not reveal internal evaluation procedures, assign a public score or guarantee that a statement is complete, current or accurate.
- Information published by the business
- The information appeared in material published or controlled by the business. It should be understood as a business-provided statement unless another source is also displayed.
- Also found in another public source
- Similar information appeared in a public source that is not presented as the business’s own website. The source link and review date are displayed so readers can evaluate it directly.
- Source currently unavailable
- The information appeared in a previously reviewed source that is no longer available or has moved. Treat the information cautiously unless another current source is displayed.
- Not stated
- The reviewed public information did not provide this detail. Hometown Signals does not fill the gap by guessing.
Dates and re-checking
Every source carries the date it was reviewed, and every record shows when it was last checked. Sources go stale - phone numbers change, businesses move, pages disappear. A date lets you judge how much weight to give a record instead of assuming it is current.
Where a source page has an archived copy, we link that too, so a statement stays checkable even after the original page changes.
What these records do not establish
A Hometown Signals record is an informational starting point. Inclusion does not establish that a business is currently available, properly licensed for a particular job, insured, bonded, affordable or suitable for a customer’s needs. It does not guarantee workmanship, safety or service quality. Customers should confirm the details that matter before hiring or purchasing.
No paid ranking
Businesses cannot pay to appear higher, receive a more favorable evidence label or alter a sourced fact. If Hometown Signals later offers optional profile-management or promotional services, those services must be visibly separated from editorial records and must not change evidence classifications or organic ordering.
Corrections and removal
Anyone can flag something that looks wrong, including the business itself. Send it through the correction form with an email address so we can follow up, and point to the page that shows the right information if you have one. Corrections are reviewed by a person, and the review date on the record updates when a change is made.
A business owner who does not want a record published can ask for it to be removed through the same form.
Who runs this
Hometown Signals is operated by Ramen Bop, LLC.
Hometown Signals is a free public service. There is no charge to businesses and no charge to the people searching for them. It exists so that a person looking for a local plumber, electrician or contractor can see checkable information rather than paid placement.
